The felty finish of this digital illustration is the result of many layers with a custom-designed brush using ProCreate and an iPad. I enjoyed working on the plaid weaving layer over layer of color. The center vessel reminds me of a measuring cup and that made me think of baking. I imagine that there will… Continue reading Red and Green

Beach Body
Beach Body is my version of a buff penguin on the shores of Antarctica. It is a relief print made from three carved plates a blue, orange, and black on Mohawk superfine. The plates are carved on Sinatra plastic plates. I only have black relief printing ink and I printed them all in black and… Continue reading Beach Body
Sad Fish
This sad fish is a digital image referencing relief printing. The following shows the process one layer at a time. Relief printing is a reductive process and so the image was created with the eraser tool instead of the paintbrush.
Light Restored
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I recognize one of the greatest events in modern history as the appearance of the Father and the Son to Joseph Smith Jr. in a Grove of trees in the Spring of 1820. The experience is commonly referred to as the First Vision.… Continue reading Light Restored
Life in Lyman: Reruns
Life in Lyman is a series of stamps about my family when the kids were young. The files are on the recovered hard drive. This one is about my daughter Charlotte who likes to cut her hair.
Moo
Moo from Cowbird (unpublished) | digital 18 × 12 inches | I have been sick about losing this project. It is my first complete children’s book that I did for my MFA project. I was happy to discover a black and white copy in my files about a year ago, but the original files are… Continue reading Moo
Peaches Preserved
Peaches Preserved | 5 × 7 digital image, printed on 8 × 10 paper | I just revived a hard drive that I thought was gone-for-good. So now is a good time to share all that has been preserved or at least some of it.
Lonely
(Reposted on 11/28/2020) I am feeling this lonely kind of isolation today. In sitting in my small studio looking out my window. I am done with COVID-19, I wish C-19 was done with us.

Maybe there is a story here
Tree Elf | I discovered this little tree elf today when creating the post-it-doodle-a-day. He just emerged in a shy friendly way. There may be a story here. He has been playing in my head most of the day.
Doodle Process
Here is a glimpse into the process of creating Post-it-doodle-a-day from 5 February thru 8 May 2016. These doodles were created digitally with an app called ProCreate on an iPad with the Apple Pencil. The process videos are built into the program. It is a long video but I think you will find it interesting… Continue reading Doodle Process
Digital Painting experiment
Aboriginal Pointillism | I don’t know where this will go but it is really fun to do. Let me know if you like it.

Simple Pattern
A simple pattern today | I am trying to find a use for the loose rough way I draw. I want to add content. I feel more like a passenger in a car enjoying a ride that the driver of the car controlling the destination. I guess the hard part is deciding where to go… Continue reading Simple Pattern
Seedlings
In the beginning | All ideas start small.
White Elephant
With my eyes closed | I really want to be more free from worry with my drawing. This is a white elephant. The line drawing is done with my eyes closed. It isn’t even ink on paper but it still makes me nervous to share. Learning to let go of fear.

Octo-Mac-plumbing
Maybe even a little Japanese | This drawing was completely unexpected but I kind of like it. I have been working on an octopus character and it looks nothing like this. I like when sketching opens up options.
Flax
Blue Flax | Blue flax has long been my favorite wildflower. I first noticed it on our honeymoon when I picked a small bouquet of it for my new wife. So whenever I see it I think of her. It blooms for a long time. There was a patch of flax near where we once… Continue reading Flax

Self Portrait | Blind contour drawings are fun, painless and kind of cool.
Yarn
Balls of Yarn | Repetition, Rhythm, and Overlapping
Family Reunion
Family Reunion | It started with the lady in the beehive and then I added more faces and a rabbit. It doesn’t really mean anything more than that. I like it and for today that is enough. Have a great day!
Rain
Rain | It has been a creative rainy day. I made changes to my picture book. It feels like it is going in a good direction but I can’t quite see where it will end up. So the process goes on and I am looking forward to a creative sunny day.
Dead End
Do you ever find yourself suddenly in the middle of nowhere? | I received a good thoughtful critique about the picture book I am working on this morning. There is still more work to do but for the moment I am feeling a bit stuck. I know that if I dig in that the new… Continue reading Dead End
Corrugated Trees
Corrugated Trees | The corrugation is one of my favorite textures that I haven’t found much use for. I think the texture and repetition of the vertical lines are comfortable regular rhythms.
Window Flowers
Window Flowers | I am growing several plants right now a geranium, a pineapple, and a dwarf blueberry bush. I am having a difficult time deciding if they should be inside or out. Inside is too easy for them and outside is too harsh (It isn’t the heat it is the hail). So in and… Continue reading Window Flowers
Wild flowers
Wild flowers | This year I planted a big chunk of my backyard into wild flowers. I highly recommend it. The seeds were a Western wild flower mix. It has been fun to see what comes up. I have more seed to plant this Fall.
