In science fiction there is this idea that there are multiple planes or realms of reality going on at the same time. I don’t think that it is fiction at all. The frames through which individuals view the sam world that we live in together determines what each individual sees and what they deem to be important.
Cultural frames exist based on the environment we grew up in. Media doesn’t report facts but becomes a frame itself. Race, religion, and socio economic status are all different frames and make that is why there is so much noise, yelling, and accusations flying around through traditional and social media. No matter how loud the yelling our frames restrict our focus to our own understanding.
I am trying to understand the things that are out of focus to me so that I can understand a larger picture of the world. I believe in good and bad and that is one frame that is a part of all I see. Maybe it is a blind spot that makes it more difficult for me to understand others but it is a rod of iron that keeps me steady and securely anchored.
My iron rod if a belief in the teachings ofThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Love this!
Have you read the book, “The Righteous Mind” (https://righteousmind.com/)
I found its explanation for why good people disagree on religion and politics (that’s the secondary title thingy) super compelling and thought provoking. The idea that there are 5 or 6 broad moral matrices that humans care about and people that lean one way or the other politically give different importance to different matrices helped clarify my thoughts on politics. You can even take the test yourself to see where you fit in their categories. (https://www.yourmorals.org/)
I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend that book. I almost want to make all my classes read it because it was so helpful to me.
I will have to check it out. Thanks, Mike!
