Illustration Friday: Phobia

Here is another publication that I did not write. But it is based on my real life phobia. I hated to go to the freezer when I was young because of the fish. Fish that my father caught, froze and never seemed to eat. Have you noticed that fish never close their eyes?

Remember, If you have to go to the freezer, always open and shut the door quickly.

  1. Oh yes! The opened eye frozen fish! What a wonderful illustration. The colors, the concept, the patterns and the water effect are all working together.

  2. I love it! I can relate, I had a smoked salmon scare the bejeebees out of me in a walk-in cooler once. I like your colors and use of patterns.

  3. oh god. The unfrozen fish were worse. smelly and eeew needed gutting. My dad was a fisherman. I sympathise!

  4. This is great! Love the ice on the fish! You do a great job on expressions! Your comments made me laugh.

  5. Food should never look like the animal from which it came! I.e., the popularity of things like fish sticks, ground round and chicken fingers! Good work!

  6. Awesome Scott! I found your blog! I can’t wait for your real book to come out!

It was great learning from you at the BYU writers and illustrators conference. Can’t wait to see more!

  7. Ah, this is great, really cool. And i can relate to this, sometimes fishes can be scary when you look into those frozen lifeless eyes….

  8. My wife’s dad had an elk head in his freezer. If that doesn’t put some sort of fear in you, you frighten me more than a frozen elk’s head. And that’s a lot.
